Slowpitch JOURNEY

I got into slowpitch when a buddy of mine from work invited me out to play league. I hit my first home run and was hooked ever since. It really got serious for me when I got back from playing a season of baseball in Germany in 2008. A friend invited me to play on my first tournament team and the rest is history!

Well, my team from Nevada just finished 3rd at Challenge Cup this year, which is a really tough tournament to play in, let alone place! I’ve played in the last 4 Challenge Cups, and multiple world tournaments for USSSA, NSA, NCS, and other sanctions including seniors. I also help my wife coach her women’s teams and I love passing on my knowledge of the game!

Why I Love THE GAME

I’ve played a long time and while they always say “slowpitch isn’t life”, it’s a big part of my life. It’s where I met my wife, and it’s where I’ve made lasting friendships and memories. It’s my therapy and also where I get to go be competitive just like when I was playing hardball. The game is a part of who I am, and I can’t see myself not being involved in some way, even after my playing days are over.

Why Slugger

I’ve been swinging Slugger ever since the Z1000 days! Those bats sounded like tin cans but man did they hit! Louisville bats feel great, have tons of pop, hit 52’s and 44’s well, and they just work for me. My gamer right now is the APG5 for USSSA and the Hyper H1 for Seniors, but give me any one piece in 28 balanced or 27 endload and I’m happy!

OFF THE Field

Fun fact: Tommy is a former radio DJ and even reported traffic on TV morning news 📻📺

Off the field, he enjoys quiet time at home with his wife and two dogs.

Encouraged if you want to share and let the reader get closer to knowing you

Outside of softball, I’m an investment advisor and I enjoy spending time with my wife and our dogs. My wife is a great player and one of the best coaches I know, so we are a softball family through and through. I can usually be found at the fields most days, and if I’m not playing, I’m probably behind the dish as an umpire.

WORDS OF WISDOM

Best advice I can give anyone is to make sure you’re having fun. Don’t be afraid to change teams or positions if where you’re currently at isn’t making you feel fulfilled. This game is supposed to make life better! Take a chance, go for what you want, put in the work, and don’t listen to the
